Parallel Session: Ecosystem, Biodiversity & Carbon Management

Objectives

The last few years have seen growing recognition of the fundamental link between climate and nature, highlighting the crucial role of healthy ecosystems in mitigating the climate crisis through carbon sequestration and storage. As increasingly severe climate challenges arise, halting the destruction of marine, terrestrial, and freshwater ecosystems and their rich biodiversity is imperative. This session will focus on identifying new opportunities and enhancing existing efforts within the GWP related to ecosystems, biodiversity, and carbon management, aiming to define what constitutes an effective work programme for Post-2025 in this focus area. It will explore the challenges, blockages, and enablers that impact progress, identify collaborative opportunities, gather diverse perspectives, and conclude with actionable recommendations for the Post-2025 GWP.
