Data to Action Pavilion Partnership

The Data to Action Pavilion is a collaborative initiative convened by GEO, GBIF, GEO BON, the Smithsonian Institution and the University of Zurich, alongside European Space Agency, Esri, AI2, the NOMIS Foundation and the Quebec Centre for Biodiversity Science, to bring together data-driven organisations at CBD COP17 and demonstrate how integrated scientific information and knowledge systems can accelerate implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

Located in the Blue Zone (location/map to be shared shortly), the pavilion will center on the theme "Data to Action" to explore five distinct thematic areas:

  • From Data to Decisions
  • Technology, Innovation and Data Governance
  • Connecting Knowledge Systems and People
  • Building Capacity for Biodiversity Action
  • Biodiversity Monitoring Across Sectors and Systems

During COP17, GEO will champion the role of Earth observations and data in accelerating action on the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

This includes the Global Ecosystems Atlas, the world's first comprehensive, open-access resource for mapping and monitoring ecosystems globally, alongside the work of GEO BON, GEO's biodiversity observation network, in building the Global Biodiversity Observing System and the tools countries need to monitor, report on and act on their biodiversity commitments.

GEO will host a number of event at the pavilion, covering topics from the Global Ecosystems Atlas Accelerator for the Maldives and Armenia's integration into global observation systems, to the technology, standards and partnerships behind the Global Ecosystems Atlas, public-private data collaboration, and using ecosystem data to guide investment in insurance and banking.

GEO BON will host events on BON in a Box, its open-source platform for biodiversity monitoring and reporting, alongside sessions on the Global Biodiversity Observing System and KMGBF Indicator 21.1.
