About

Join GEO and help solve global challenges through Earth intelligence. GEO unites governments, international organisations, research institutions, businesses, and civil society in a collaborative platform to build a more sustainable and resilient future. Be a part of a diverse network working across sectors to tackle complex issues with coordinated, impactful solutions.

GEO Associates, including private sector entities, civil society organisations, and NGOs, bring innovation and resources to GEO’s mission. Eligible organisations must demonstrate at least two years of substantive involvement with GEO and a sustained, self-funded contribution.

GEO and the Commercial Sector

Commercial products and services based on Earth observations provide important public and private benefits, foster scientific and technological innovation and spur economic development.

GEO has historically welcomed engagement from commercial organisations in support of its mission. GEO provides these entities with the opportunity to connect with and learn from its expansive Earth observation expert and user communities, including scientific and technical experts from universities, government agencies, research institutions and international organisations.

In return for helping to build the open resources and services used by the GEO community, engaged commercial organisations gain insight into the data and information needs of the GEO community that can inform their investments and receive access to market opportunities in the GEO member states.

Avenues of engagement include participation in and sponsorship of GEO events, contributions to the GEO Work Programme and providing open data or free software and services to the GEO community.

How to Become an Associate?

GEO welcomes, as GEO Associates, commercial firms and national associations of commercial firms, as well as non-governmental, not-for-profit and civil society organisations with a national or sub-national mandate or scope of operations related to Earth observations. GEO Associates must be registered in the territory of a GEO Member State, and do not participate in the governance of GEO.

Associates can participate in the GEO Work Programme activities by partnering with GEO Members and other organisations to join existing initiatives or launch new initiatives.

To be recognised as a GEO Associate, candidates must send an application to the GEO Secretariat. Eligible candidates must demonstrate two or more years of substantive involvement with GEO either through an activity in the GEO Work Programme or through active participation in events that advance the GEO vision. Candidates should also identify their proposed contributions to GEO, which must be self-funded and sustained.
