About Us

What is GEO?

The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) is a global alliance dedicated to understanding Earth's complexities. As an intergovernmental body, GEO co-produces user-driven Earth Intelligence solutions.

By sharing vital information like satellite images and oceanic temperatures, GEO provides a comprehensive view of our planet's health. These datasets are crucial tools that inform decisions and shape policies worldwide, guiding society towards a sustainable future.

What We Do

At its core, GEO is a cooperative forum and operates through collaboration among its member countries and participating organisations, each with their unique perspectives and data sets. By sharing this wealth of information and research, we ensure that decisions made for Earth's future are based on the best available knowledge, fostering an all-inclusive user-centric approach to planetary care.

Meet the People Who Make All This Possible

GEO is a partnership of more than 100 national governments and in excess of 100 Participating Organisations that envisions a future where decisions and actions for the benefit of humankind are informed by coordinated, comprehensive and sustained Earth Intelligence.

Our Partners

GEO is an intergovernmental partnership that works to improve the availability, access, understanding and use of Earth Intelligence for the benefit of society.

How We Work

GEO convenes governments, academia, organisations, civil society and the private sector to create integrated Earth Intelligence solutions for informed decision-making.

This work contributes to the transformation of societal structures, policies, practices and mindsets to create harmony with nature.

GEO’s global engagement priorities include supporting the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Paris Agreement on Climate and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. However, other work is also undertaken with respect to the Aichi Targets, the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Minamata Convention and the New Urban Agenda through the activities of the GEO Work Programme.
