One Health

One Health

One Health is an interdisciplinary approach that addresses global health challenges by recognising the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. It promotes cross-sector collaboration to improve decision-making and interventions.

GEO supports this by providing environmental intelligence through Earth observations, enhancing the prediction, management, and prevention of health impacts linked to animals and the environment, and enabling more effective, integrated responses.

Advancing Health Outcomes Through Earth Intelligence

Through activities such as Global Observation System for Mercury, DigiGEO Wildfire-Health Nexus and the Earth Observations for Health Community of Practice, GEO’s One Health approach enables:

  • AI-driven analysis of environmental and health data to predict disease outbreaks.
  • Real-time surveillance systems for monitoring environmental health risks.
  • Integration of climate and environmental intelligence into global health strategies.
  • Mapping light pollution’s effects on ecosystems and human health.
  • Actionable data to inform biodiversity protection strategies.

Key GEO Activities

The project has established a research framework of “observation-simulation-prediction-decision” for fire risk identification, evolution analysis, and emergency decision-making methods.

Supporting Global Priorities

This work aligns with:

SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being):
Reducing health risks through environmental management.
Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework:
Addressing biodiversity challenges linked to environmental health.

Looking Ahead

GEO will continue integrating Earth Intelligence with health data, advancing AI-driven analytics and fostering partnerships to address the complex challenges of human and environmental health in a changing world.
