
Fernando Sedano
Biography
Fernando Sedano is the team leader of the Wildfire Team at the Disaster Risk Management of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. The Wildfire Team in charge of the day-to-day operations and evolution of the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS) and the Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS). Fernando is a remote sensing scientist with a background in forestry and forest fires. He holds Bsc. and Msc. degrees in Forestry from the University of Valladolid (Spain) and a PhD. in Environmental Sciences from the University of California at Berkeley (US). Before joining the JRC, Fernando was a research professor at the Department of Geographical Sciences of the University of Maryland, and a science collaborator at the NASA Goddard Space flight Centre. Over his career, his research interests have led him to work on projects across temperate, tropical, boreal ecosystems spanning Africa, Latin America, Europa and Asia.
