The Value of Valuing Earth Observations

Do you know the value of your GEO Programme activities? What impact do they have? Would you like to learn about ways to measure the value of Earth observations (EO) and applications for your users?

GeoValue is a community activity of GEO which seeks to develop tools and advance the methodology through which the value of EO can be demonstrated (https://geovalue.org). We would like to learn about the experience and interests of GEO community members. This GEOValue side event aims at exchanging views on the usefulness and value added by different types of impact assessments. The session will be organized as follows:

  • An exposure of the most recent works in GeoValue, with emphasis on their motivation and how they were received by the respective stakeholders;
  • An open discussion with interested representatives of GEO Work Programme activities to learn about their experiences and how impact assessments could possibly be developed for GEO activities at large; and
  • A participatory and collaborative endeavor to understand and address the EO valuation gaps within GEO Work Programme This may include economic modelling and value of information studies, qualitative approaches such as case studies and case narratives, and many more…

Who?

Representatives from GEO Work Programme activities who have interest in impact assessments related to their projects and especially related to the use of Earth Observation data are invited to share their views. We are looking for participants who will be attending the GEO Week 2022 in Accra, Ghana. Please feel free to pass this on to colleagues who may be interested.

Why?

Participants will have the opportunity to learn from colleagues about case studies and methodologies that are being explored to demonstrate the benefits derived from the use of EO data, but also about the associated challenges. They will have the opportunity to present their own experience and explore possible collaborations with the group.

When?

11:00-12:30, Tuesday, November 1
