Join us for the launch of the joint policy brief by the UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and GEO: “Realising Early Warnings for All: Innovation and Technology in Support of Risk-Informed Climate Resilience Policy and Action”.

The policy brief will be unveiled during the Earth Information Day event being held in conjunction with COP29. Earth Information Day provides a platform for dialogue, enabling the exchange of information on the state of the global climate system and advancements in systematic observation.

The event will also feature a plenary session providing relevant updates related to Earth observation. (see full agenda here). Panel updates include:

  • WMO 2024 State of the Climate Update / Dr. John Kennedy and Dr. Blair Trewin
  • Updates on the Global Climate Observing System /Prof. Thelma Krug, GCOS Chair
  • GHG monitoring including latest sectoral data / Dr. Gianpaolo Balsamo, G3W Director
  • Early Warning for All initiative / Daniela Cuellar Vargas
  • Bridging observation gaps, role of SOFF and innovative financing models / Markus Repnik, SOFF Director, and Lucy Mtilatila, DCCMS Malawi
  • Advancements in technology and innovation, including the role of AI and machine learning in Earth observation / Dr. Rob Redmon, NOAA Center for Artificial Intelligence Director

Topics for breakout discussions include: observations for climate change mitigation; observations for climate adaptation; observations for averting, minimising, addressing loss and damage, and strengthening resilience to extreme events including heat stress; and advancing innovation, technology and digital transformation, and (e) enhancing observation in critical ecosystems and vulnerable regions.
