Statement of the Space for Climate Observatory (SCO)

On behalf of the Space for Climate Observatory (SCO), we are honored to contribute to the GEO Global Forum and reaffirm our commitment to support the use of space-based data for climate action.

The SCO was created with a clear mission: to transform Earth Observation data into operational applications for local stakeholders to fight against climate change. By combining Earth observation data with socio-economic and in-situ data, the SCO supports the development of tools that help communities to adapt to climate change.

As a global initiative, the SCO federates an international network of agencies, research institutions, and public / private entities. Together, we promote open science, collaboration, and the co-construction of climate solutions based on users’ needs.

We strongly align with GEO’s vision and focus areas – including agriculture, climate, energy, biodiversity, water, open knowledge etc. We are especially proud to contribute to the GEO Knowledge Hub, which helps increase the visibility of our SCO projects. Therefore, the SCO is eager to deepen its collaboration with the GEO community to increase the impact of space data for climate action, particularly in vulnerable regions.
