EARSC Full Statement
As a long-standing Participating Organization in GEO, the European Association of Remote Sensing Companies (EARSC) reaffirms its commitment to GEO’s vision of delivering Earth intelligence for a sustainable planet.
In 2024, EARSC celebrates its 35th anniversary—marking over three decades of leadership in representing the European Earth Observation (EO) services industry. With more than 140 members spanning startups to multinationals across 24 European countries, EARSC champions the integration of EO into policymaking, innovation ecosystems, and operational services to address global challenges.
EARSC actively contributes to the GEO Work Programme and EuroGEO through a wide range of initiatives: (i) Leading public-private engagement in projects such as EuroGEOSec, SDGs-EYES, CREDIBLE, HARMONIA, VALORADA, ENFORCE, Landshift, OCEANIDS…. translating EO capabilities into actionable insights for climate adaptation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable land and ocean use. (ii) Supporting the development of the Data Spaces, ensuring EO is embedded in Europe's digital transformation. (iii) Enabling uptake of EO among local and regional authorities through catalogues, technical feasibility assessments (e.g. on methane monitoring), and tools like eoPAGES and eoMALL.
In support of GEO’s core objectives, EARSC also: (i) Promotes EO solutions for SDG monitoring through its role in EO4SDGs, fostering connections between statistical communities, NSOs, and private providers. (ii) Advocates for greater EO integration into regulatory frameworks through its Policy Observatory and working groups. (iii) Facilitates dialogue and knowledge-sharing through EXPANDEO, EOcafes, and contributions to international partnerships across Africa, Latin America, and the UN system (iv) Lead discussions about the role of EO skills and workforce development, leveraging efforts like SPACE4GEO and SpaceSUITE.
Looking forward, EARSC calls for:
- Stronger GEO-private sector collaboration mechanisms, including governance roles for industry.
- A more agile Research-to-Business pipeline under EuroGEO and GEO, ensuring scalable services and commercial viability.
- Recognition of EO as a core building block of digital public infrastructure and data ecosystems for climate resilience and sustainability.
EARSC stands ready to continue acting as the voice of the European EO industry within GEO, working collaboratively to drive innovation, inform decisions, and empower societies with the tools needed to navigate the twin green and digital transitions.
