Khim Lal Gautam

Biography

Khim Lal Gautam is a Chief Survey Officer of the Survey Department, Government of Nepal, a surveyor, geodesist and mountaineer with extensive experience in surveying and geospatial science in the Himalaya. He has twice summited Mount Everest (Sagarmatha), the world’s highest mountain, and has been involved in geodetic missions on Everest, including leading Nepal’s 2019 expedition to determine its most accurate height using modern surveying using state of art of technology.

His professional interests focus on Earth observation, Himalaya’s glacier monitoring, climate change, and the application of geospatial technologies to understand and protect high-mountain environment. His work brings together field-based surveying and Earth observation to advance scientific knowledge of the Himalayas.
