
Amos Kabo-Bah
Biography
Amos Kabo-Bah is a Professor and Foundation Dean of the International Relations Office at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Ghana, Co-Chair of the GEO Programme Board, GEO Alternate for Ghana, and a Presidential appointee to Ghana's Domain Name Registry Governing Board under the Ministry of Communications, Digitization and Innovation. He also serves as Co-Chair of the GEO Land Degradation Neutrality Flagship Initiative, Steering Committee Member of GEO AquaWatch, Former Steering Committee Member of GCOS-WMO, and Council Member of the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE).A globally recognized expert in water resources engineering, Earth observation, climate science, and sustainable energy systems, Professor Kabo-Bah has authored 166+ publications spanning high-impact journals and six books, including an Elsevier title on pumped hydro energy storage. He has led and contributed to numerous international research projects spanning climate change, carbon monitoring, bioenergy, and numerical weather forecasting, in partnership with NOAA, the European Space Agency (ESA), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Royal Society UK, and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI). He is the recent recipient of the Distinguished International Cooperation Award from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).He is the Founding Director of the Earth Observation Research and Innovation Centre (EORIC) at UENR and directs the DBAR International Centre of Excellence (ICoE-Sunyani), having supervised 14 completed PhD and 20+ MSc students across Africa. His research integrates satellite remote sensing, machine learning, and geospatial analysis to address land degradation, water scarcity, flood risk, and climate adaptation across West Africa and beyond. He is a regular keynote speaker at major international Earth observation forums.
