
Dirk Engelbart
Biography
Dr. Engelbart is a meteorologist, physicist and hydrologist, who studied at the University of Hannover, Germany. He started his career back in 1986 as an experimental researcher in polar science, where he took part in several German expeditions to Antarctica and took over his first leading role as chief of the team on "Polar Research" at Hannover University in 1989. Later he changed to the German Meteorological Service (DWD) and served here as Director of Ground-based Remote Sensing, located at Lindenberg Observatory. Since 2009, he has held senior roles in the German Federal Ministry of Transport in different departments, currently leading the directorate on Meteorology and DWD, Earth observation as well as policy coordination activities with a special emphasis on EUMETSAT, ECMWF and GEO.
