Leo Chiloane is the Head of the Data Infrastructure Node at the South African Environmental Observation Network (SAEON). His work focuses on the development of environmental data systems and integrated decision support tools. At SAEON he leads a team responsible for implementing the CoreTrustSeal certified SAEON Open Data Platform and the South African Risk and Vulnerability Atlas.

He has worked on various information systems projects and data infrastructures in South Africa including the initial implementation of the South African Spatial Data Infrastructure and the establishment of a regional repository for marine and coastal data for Southern Africa. This repository operates under the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment’s National Oceans and Coastal Information Management System.
