Dr. Yubao Qiu, is now a full professor at the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS) Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences (AIRCAS), Beijing, China. Now, he is the director to the Digital Enviroment Research Division in CBAS, and the Secretariat General to Digital Belt and Road program (DBAR). He specializes in the application of Earth Observations and data science, especially for the High Mountain Asia and polar cold regions. Recently, he was award with the 1st Personal Achievements Award of Science Database in 2019, and the Best Paper Contribution Award of China Science Data in 2021.  

Dr. Yubao Qiu achieved his Bachelor degree in Geological Engineering and Master degree in Earth Probing and Information Technology from China University of Geoscience (Wuhan) in 2000 and 2003. He finished his Ph.D degree of Cartography and Geographic Information System in Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) in 2008. He was with Center for Earth observations and Digital Earth under CAS from 2008, and continuing to work for Institute of Remote sensing and Digital Earth (RADI) of CAS from 2013. 

Yubao Qiu have several years’ research experience and visiting overseas. He was with the Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) in 2008, and Finnish Metrological Institute (FMI) as a short-term visiting scientist for each year from 2016 to 2019. From March 2012, he began his secondment as the Scientific and Technical Officer in Secretary to Group on Earth Observations (GEO) based in Geneva, supporting the Water component-information services for cold regions, Ecosystems, and data sharing. There, he has been brokering the EO programs and applications. He is the co-chair to the working group on High Mountain and Polar Cold Regions (HiMAC), and co-lead (PoC) to the GEO Cold Regions Initiative (CRI) under Group of Earth Observations (GEO).
