iClimateAction: Advancing Earth Intelligence through collaboration and innovation
The climate crisis demands better coordination, stronger data integration and actionable intelligence.
Funded by the European Union, the iClimateAction initiative strengthens collaboration between the Global Climate Observing System, World Meteorological Organization and GEO to streamline how climate data is collected, managed and transformed into decision-ready insights.
“iClimateAction moves us closer to the kind of user-driven climate intelligence system where data is not only accessible, but actionable, interoperable and impactful,” said Yana Gevorgyan, GEO Secretariat Director.
“This initiative aligns very closely with GEO’s Post-2025 Strategy: Earth Intelligence for all, advancing three core objectives: Building transformative programmes to serve real-world needs; ensuring global equity in access to Earth Intelligence, including climate intelligence; and leveraging emerging technologies to enhance Earth observation services.”
Through iClimateAction, GEO will advance two key initiatives:
- The Global Heat Resilience Service: A direct response to the UN Secretary-General’s Call to Action on Extreme Heat, helping cities protect public health with real-time intelligence.
- The Global Ecosystems Atlas: A first-of-its-kind open resource, consolidating ecosystem data to support adaptation, mitigation and nature-based solutions.
GEO is committed to delivering hashtag#EarthIntelligenceforAll, ensuring data, knowledge and services are accessible. We are proud to work with WMO, GCOS and the European Commission to build an integrated approach to climate intelligence that transforms science into action.
