  • GEO Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Webinar Series for 2024

Please join the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Subgroup of the GEO Programme Board in our 2024 webinar series and be inspired by engaging stories from around the world that celebrate gender, indigenous people and youth perspectives in the Earth observation community. These webinars will be held as the world is recognizing women, indigenous people, and youth on their United Nations designated International Days. Each webinar will be given live twice a day, one in each hemisphere at a reasonable hour.

The program for 2024 is as follows:

On International Women’s Day, Friday the 8th of March, we will hold our 1st webinar celebrating woman. For this webinar, registration is open – please register here:

The 2nd webinar will be held on The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, Friday the 8th of August.

The 3rd webinar will be held on International Youth Day, Monday the 12th of. August.

Registration information for the second and third webinar will be given at a later date.

Background of GEO EDI:

The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Subgroup of the GEO Programme Board supports the strategic aim of developing GEO as an institution that provides a fair, supportive and encouraging networking environment that ensures that equality, diversity, and inclusivity are fully considered, addressed, and embedded within GEO activities and decisions.

The 2023 Cape Town GEO Ministerial declaration recognizes that barriers to access and use of Earth observation persist and are not limited to geography. Increasing equity and inclusivity with a greater diversity of voices and greater attention to engagement and capacity development are critical to enabling our sustainable and resilient future. Furthermore, the GEO ministerial praises the adoption of the GEO Statement on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). GEO’s resolve to develop an ever-more dynamic, diverse, and inclusive community is laudable.
