2023 GEO Awards Winners

In 2023 the GEO Award ceremony was held during GEO Week in Cape Town. These awards recognized three exceptional individuals and three teams who have contributed significantly to GEO’s mission across two award categories: the Emerging Leaders Award and the Team Impact Award.

The Emerging Leaders Award recognized individuals pioneering new ideas and leading impactful projects within the GEO community.

Jean Massanet

Jean has been a leading force in the EO community, particularly through his work on the New Caledonia GeoDEV platform, aimed at promoting EO benefits and fostering collaboration across the Pacific Islands. He is noted for his advocacy for youth and community engagement, exemplified by his organization of the OGS Symposium, which attracted 300 participants and 30 partners.

Igor Ogishawara

Igor’s contributions to GEO’s AquaWatch Initiative and leadership in the Data/Technical working group underscore his dedication to advancing aquatic remote sensing. His work on the Water For-CE project and commitment to open knowledge sharing exemplify GEO’s values in supporting water resource management.

Meghavi Prashnani

Meghavi has been pivotal in GEOGLAM’s food security efforts, especially in her role as South Asia coordinator and through partnerships with India's agricultural and space sectors. Her work with NASA Harvest South Asia has strengthened EO’s role in ensuring food security through innovative agricultural applications.

The Team Impact Award celebrated GEO teams that delivered outstanding results through collaboration and innovation.

GEOGLAM

Over the past 12 years, GEOGLAM has supported global food security by enhancing market transparency and providing early warnings to prevent crises, which has informed policies and saved lives worldwide.

GEO Blue Planet

This team has developed EO tools for coastal eutrophication, Sargassum monitoring, and oil spill response, raising awareness and driving environmental action in coastal and marine conservation.

Vegetation Remote Sensing & Pest and Disease Application Research Team (RSCROP)

Through collaborative models and forecasting tools, RSCROP has advanced global efforts in pest and disease control, contributing to food security, disaster resilience, and sustainable agriculture while reducing pesticide use.
