Lorant is the Chief of Space-based Information for Disaster Management and Emergency Response (UN-SPIDER) at the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA). He is also Lead of the GEO Work Programme activity, Earth Observations for Disaster Risk Management (EO4DRM).
Lorant leads UN-SPIDER efforts to support countries with space technology in disaster situations. Since 1996, he has worked with UNEP/GRID-Arendal, UN Cartographic Section, Peacekeeping, and missions in Syria. He contributed to boundary demarcation projects and served as Map Centre Manager at ReliefWeb (UNOCHA). He joined UNOOSA in 2008 and later led the GRID³ Secretariat at UNFPA, advancing geospatial modernization and population data systems.
