Vietnam

It is an honor to participate in GEO week 2023 to express our support to GEO vision and GEO Post-2025 Strategy which is being adopted during GEO-19 Plenary.

Vietnam is pleased to share our update on the national program for GEO week 2023.

In 2021, Vietnam Government released the “The Strategy of space science and technology development and application to 2030”. The strategy’s overall goal is to widely apply achievements of space science and technology; selectively invest in some areas; and improve the country’s scientific and technological capacity. On the other hand, the Vietnam Government also set the target “Vietnam will master the manufacture technology of RS satellites, receiving station system, processing of RS data, RS satellite station by 2030” in the “National remote sensing development strategy by 2030 with a vision towards 2040” which was approved in 2019. These adopted documents will provide guidance to Vietnam's EO action on data, technology, and partnerships over the next decade and beyond.

To implement the above mentioned national space programs, Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC) – Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) is completing its key national project “Vietnam Space Center” in 2025 which will facilitate Vietnam to manufacture EO satellites, launch its first SAR LOTUSat-1 and capacity building. Besides, VNSC/VAST is developing its EO satellites roadmap until 2040. These future missions will help to generate solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation in Vietnam.

In addition to these national highlights, Vietnam continues to contribute its part to GEO’s efforts, such as: Global Agricultural Monitoring (GEOGLAM); Global Forest Observation Initiative (GFOI) and Asia-Oceania Group on Earth Observations (AOGEO).

Vietnam realizes the importance of international collaboration and looks forward to working with the local GEO community in South Africa and international colleagues to tackle common challenges as well as to promote common goals for a common sustainable future.
