The GEO Knowledge Hub at Living Planet Symposium 2025: unlocking impact through open knowledge

At this year’s Living Planet Symposium, an engaged audience learned about the GEO Knowledge Hub as part of broader discussions on reproducibility and open science in Earth observations. Represented by Kalamkas Yessimkhanova, the team presented a poster “Enhancing Knowledge Reuse and Impact with the GEO Knowledge Hub” to showcase how the GEO Knowledge Hub is enabling real change in Earth observation science.
The GEO Knowledge Hub is designed to support the sharing of open data and open knowledge across sectors. At the Symposium, we focused on how the platform serves as a trusted space for researchers, policymakers and practitioners to access curated, usable Earth observations resources.
The GEO Knowledge Hub’s unique “Knowledge Packages” bundle data, methods, software and documentation around specific themes, making them easier to understand, replicate and apply.
At Living Planet, it was clear that there is growing demand for exactly this kind of resource. GEO connected with many potential new users and collaborators, all keen to explore how the GEO Knowledge Hub can support their work, from environmental monitoring to policy implementation.
There are exciting opportunities on the horizon. Initiatives like EarthCODE (ESA) and KCEO (JRC) share our mission of making Earth observations knowledge more usable and impactful. Deeper collaboration will amplify the visibility and value of open science across this community.
The feedback and connections made at the Living Planet Symposium will help guide our next steps in expanding the GEO Knowledge Hub’s impact and enhancing its visibility within the Earth Observation field.
