Registration Now Open for the 18th AOGEO Symposium

Registration is now open for the 18th Asia-Oceania Group on Earth Observations (AOGEO) Symposium, taking place from 15 to 17 December 2026 in Tsukuba, Japan. Organized by Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), with support from the GEO Secretariat, this year's Symposium will be held under the theme "Advancing Earth Intelligence for Sustainable and Resilient Societies in the Asia-Oceania Region: Connecting Science, Decision-Making, and Action." 

The AOGEO Symposium offers a space to move beyond simply sharing Earth observation data and toward co-designing and delivering Earth Intelligence: actionable knowledge that helps governments and communities anticipate risks, respond to regional priorities, and make better-informed decisions.

Across Asia and Oceania, countries are confronting interconnected challenges ranging from climate change and natural hazards to biodiversity loss, food insecurity and growing pressure on natural resources. Addressing these challenges requires more than access to data. It requires stronger connections between science and policy, solutions designed around real user needs, and partnerships capable of turning Earth observations into action.

Building on the momentum of the 2026 GEO Symposium and GEO-21 Plenary, the 18th AOGEO Symposium provides an important opportunity for the regional GEO community to shape shared priorities, exchange solutions and strengthen the partnerships and resources needed to advance Earth Intelligence across the region.

Held at the Tsukuba International Congress Center, with plenary sessions live-streamed and hybrid participation available, the three-day program will feature keynote addresses, country reports, thematic Task Group sessions, special sessions and a poster exhibition showcasing work from across the region. Participants will have opportunities to exchange experiences, identify common challenges and explore how Earth observation, emerging technologies and regional cooperation can support more sustainable and resilient societies. The Symposium will conclude with the adoption of the 2026 AOGEO Statement, capturing shared priorities and messages from the region and bringing them to AOGEO Principals and the wider global GEO community.
