Catch GEO at the AI for Good Summit in Geneva

On 9 July, experts from the GEO community will join leaders and innovators at the AI for Good Summit to explore how AI and Earth observations can reduce disaster risk and build a more resilient future.
📅 9am-12:15pm CEST | AI innovation for EW4All: Bridging gaps, saving lives
🗣️ Sara Venturini, Chief of Member Services at GEO Secretariat, will speak to the integration of AI insights into GEO’s policy work with the UN’s Early Warnings for All initiative.
This will include how AI elements were integrated into the TEC-GEO policy brief recommendations (Innovation and Technology in Support of Risk-Informed Climate Resilience Policy and Action) and how they were reflected in the outcome of COP29 negotiation.
📅 3.30pm CEST | Geospatial Earth Intelligence for the Human Planet
🗣️ Michele Melchiorri, co-chair of GEO Human Planet, will presents how AI and machine learning are being used to process vast Earth observation datasets and generate reliable maps of population growth, urban areas, and critical infrastructure.
These insights support public decision-making by helping assess disaster exposure, such as the number of people or assets in hazard-prone areas, and understand vulnerability, including economic value and relative deprivation.
🗣️ Yifang Ban, lead of the GEO AI4EO working group, will present the power of foundation models to support GEO Work Programme activities and advance urban mapping and near real-time wildfire monitoring.
