AmeriGEO Week 2026: Registration Now Open
Registration is now open for AmeriGEO Week 2026, taking place from 30 November to 4 December 2026 in Guatemala City, Guatemala, under the theme Geospatial Interoperability for Regional Resilience and Sustainability.
Hosted by Guatemala’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) and taking place at the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, AmeriGEO Week 2026 will bring together government representatives, Earth observation and geospatial experts, researchers, practitioners, and communities from across the Americas around a shared challenge: how can we turn increasingly rich Earth observation data into actionable information for the people making decisions on the ground?
For more than a decade, AmeriGEO has provided a regional platform for countries across the Americas to exchange experience, build partnerships, and develop practical applications of Earth observation. From Canada to Chile, the AmeriGEO community is using satellite, in situ, and other geospatial information to address shared challenges including floods, droughts, wildfires, food security, ecosystem degradation, and climate change.
The 2026 edition builds on this collaboration with a particular focus on interoperability: connecting data, tools, institutions, and people so that information can move more effectively across systems and borders—and ultimately support better and faster decisions. This reflects GEO’s broader ambition to transform Earth observations into Earth Intelligence that responds to real-world needs.
AmeriGEOWeek 2026 will focus on four key themes:
- Climate and Disaster Resilience: Using Earth observation to anticipate, mitigate, prepare for, and respond to climate-related risks and natural disasters.
- Capacities, Inclusion, and Co-creation: Building regional capabilities and fostering inclusive, collaborative approaches to developing and applying geospatial solutions.
- Biodiversity, Forests and Water: Advancing integrated monitoring of ecosystems, watersheds, and territorial systems, translating regional evidence into locally relevant action.
- Interoperability and Open Data: Promoting reliable standards, infrastructures, and workflows that make Earth observation data discoverable, accessible, interoperable and reusable across borders.
Together, these themes will explore how regional cooperation can strengthen the connection between Earth observation and local decision-making, ensuring that data and tools are not only available, but accessible, interoperable, and actionable for governments and communities throughout the Americas.
