Registration Now Open for the 10th AfriGEO Symposium: Join Africa’s Earth Observation community in Abuja, Nigeria, from 5–8 October 2026

Registration is now open for the 10th AfriGEO Symposium taking place from 5–8 October 2026, in Abuja, Nigeria, under the theme Earth Observations for a Resilient Africa. Hosted by the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) of Nigeria and the AfriGEO Secretariat, this landmark event brings together governments, academia, the private sector, and development partners to advance Africa's use of Earth observation technologies in addressing climate change, disaster risk, food security, and urbanization.
Over the past decade, AfriGEO has become a cornerstone of regional cooperation, helping African countries harness Earth observation data, technologies, and partnerships to address some of the continent’s most pressing challenges. The 2026 edition builds on this legacy by consolidating lessons learned and strengthening continental capacity, aligning with the AfriGEO Implementation Plan 2026–2036 and critical global frameworks, including the Rio Convention’s goals, the African Union Agenda 2063, and GEO's Post-2025 Strategy.
A Platform for Africa's Earth Intelligence
Hosted in Abuja, the AfriGEO Symposium highlights Nigeria's NASRDA leadership in space science and positions the nation as a regional hub for Earth Intelligence collaboration. The programme will focus on five strategic thematic areas: Policy and Decision-Making, Climate and Resilience, Land and Natural Resources, Space Economy, and Biodiversity and Ecosystems. These themes reflect the growing demand for operational Earth observation applications that support national planning, climate action, agricultural productivity, environmental management, and economic development.
The Symposium also advances four core pillars of the AfriGEO Implementation Plan:
- Capacity Development strengthens Africa's technical workforce in Earth observation, AI, and geospatial analytics essential for homegrown innovation.
- Data Systems promote open data standards and interoperability, enabling seamless collaboration across African nations and international partners.
- Operational Services scales proven Earth observation applications to equip governments with evidence-based tools for policy formulation.
- Policy Engagement reinforces regional coordination and ensures Earth observation insights directly inform policy making.
Join the Movement
The 10th AfriGEO Symposium represents a critical moment for Africa to harness Earth Intelligence as a catalyst for resilience, innovation, and inclusive development. GEO invites stakeholders across all sectors to participate in shaping Africa's Earth Intelligence future.
