Community Event Session 3: Earth Observation for Climate Action: Supporting Innovative Projects

Objectives

The session "Earth Observation for climate action: supporting innovative projects" aims to highlight how Earth Observation can be effectively used to support climate adaptation at the local level, and how international alliances and associations can support these efforts.

Co-organised by the Space for Climate Observatory (SCO), European Association of Remote Sensing (EARSC), and the African Smart Cities Innovation Foundation (ASCIF), this community event will highlight how EO can be a strong asset for regions to better anticipate and adapt to climate change.

One of the key objectives will be to underline the importance of collaboration between high-level entities, local actors, and the private sector. Supporting the emergence of innovative EO-based projects requires strong partnerships, knowledge exchange, and coordinated action across sectors and regions.

By building on concrete success stories, this session will demonstrate how EO data is essential for the development of effective tools to support climate change adaptation, particularly by providing local authorities with the information they need to understand vulnerabilities, anticipate risks, and implement solutions.

Finally, the session will also seek to position EO as a tool for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to climate action, life on land or sustainable cities. It will explore how space-based data can bridge the gap between global objectives and local implementation, especially when end-users are actively engaged in the use of solutions.

By bringing together experts and projects’ leaders, this community event will reinforce the importance of international cooperation in using Earth Observation data for climate action.
