Community Event Session 9: Bridging Global Principles and Local Actions: Operationalizing the Digital Earth Approaches CoP

Objectives

The community event has three objectives:

  1. Launch the Digital Earth Approaches CoP:
    1. Convene stakeholders to establish a collaborative framework that bridges global Digital Earth principles with locally tailored implementations.
    2. Formalize the CoP's Terms of Reference and initial work plan to align goals and objectives.
  2. Foster Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange:
    1. Introduce best practices from EO Data Cube initiatives such as Digital Earth Australia, Brazil, Africa, Pacific, Switzerland and others, emphasizing their adaptability to diverse regional needs.
    2. Provide a platform for GEO Members, Participating Organizations and Associates to share challenges, opportunities, and solutions related to Digital Earth approaches.
  3. Enable Actionable Outcomes for Earth Intelligence:
    1. Engage participants in developing actionable outputs, such as a shared toolkit for local EO Data Cube implementation and a repository for cross-regional knowledge sharing.
    2. Explore integration of Indigenous Knowledge and youth engagement strategies to drive inclusivity and innovation.

  • Flash Presentations and Discussion (40 min): Bridging global tools and local capacity - enablers for operationalizing EO Data Cubes
    • What is Digital Earth today: technical and operational tools, and promoting interoperability (Gilberto Camara, INPE)
    • Advancing local capacity building through partnerships and mentorship programs (Lisa Rabelo, DE Africa)
    • Developing joint advocacy efforts to communicate the value and benefits of EO Data Cubes (Mario Hernadez, ISDE)
  • Café Discussions (40 min): Supporting uptake of Earth intelligence by GEO Members through EO Data Cubes
  • Wrap up (5 min)
