As Chief of Member Services at the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Secretariat, Dr Sara Venturini plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing a strategic Member engagement plan to advance GEO's objectives and optimising countries’ engagement based on national priorities.
Sara leads initiatives to engage Members and prospective Members in the GEO governance and Work Programme, collaborate with Regional GEOs for community building, ensure effective communication of GEO's opportunities, and promote financial contributions, thus integrating governments’ priorities into the ongoing and lasting activities of GEO and maximising Members’ return on investment.
Her management goals include fostering a team culture centred on innovation and collaboration, where creativity flourishes and collective efforts lead to groundbreaking achievements.
With a career spanning over 15 years at the interface of science and policy, Sara has collaborated closely with UN bodies and advised governments and organisations on climate change policy at all scales, access to climate finance, and participation in multilateral negotiations.
Her direct country experience extends across diverse regions, including small island developing states in the Caribbean and Indian Ocean, the Western Balkans, Central and Southeast Asia, the Middle East, South America, Africa, and Europe.
She holds a PhD in Climate Change Science and Management from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Italy.
