Karyn Tabor

Karyn Tabor leads research in satellite-based monitoring tools and early warning and alert systems for Conservation International, as well as the Collective Earth Action initiative, which promotes digital equity for Indigenous peoples.

As the Senior Director for Ecological Monitoring for the Moore Center for Science, Karyn Tabor guides development of real-time monitoring tools to track forest fires and protect natural resources. Since joining Conservation International in 2001. Karyn has worked on a variety of data-based research projects that aim to support forest conservation, slow climate change and reduce the negative impacts of forest fires for nature and people. She also helps lead Conservation International’s institutional engagement with NASA and the Group on Earth Observations, a global network of governments, research institutions, and corporate partners dedicated to innovation and conservation.

Karyn is a doctoral candidate in Geography and Environmental Systems at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and she holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Environmental Science/Remote Sensing & GIS from Boston University.
