Daniele Ehrlich is a senior scientific offer with the Joint Research Centre, of the European Commission, based in Ispra, Italy. Daniele holds Ph.D. degree from University California, at Santa Barbara (USA).  He has over 25 years of experience in remote sensing and GIS applied to land cover analysis and disaster risk management. His recent work addresses human settlements with focus on global built-up analysis, population estimations, for use in global disaster risk assessments. Daniele’s research interest focuses also on urban spatial growth and in the analysis of urbanization patterns for use in local and global sustainability research. Daniele co-ordinates activities within the Human Planet Initiative and is a member of the GEO DRR Working Group.
