Alexia Tsouni is a Research Associate in the Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics Space Applications and Remote Sensing of the National Observatory of Athens (NOA/IAASARS) and leads the FloodHub team of the Operational Unit BEYOND Centre of Earth Observation Research and Satellite Remote Sensing (www.beyond-eocenter.eu). She is a graduate of the School of Civil Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), with specialisation in Water Resources, Hydraulic and Maritime Engineering (2001), and she also holds a postgraduate diploma in Water Resources Science and Technology (2003) from NTUA. She is currently a PhD candidate at the School of Civil Engineering of NTUA on floods simulation and risk assessment in urban areas combining multiple data sources. She has rich experience in Earth Observation coordination, capacity building and dissemination, exploitation of research outcomes, emergency management, disasters monitoring, water resources management and consultancy services. She is member of the UN-SPIDER Regional Support Office Greece (www.un-spider.org/network/regional-support-offices/greece-regional-support-office) in support of capacity building, outreach, horizontal cooperation and technical advisory support, and member of the project coordination team of the GEO-CRADLE Initiative (http://geocradle.eu/en) for the uptake of Earth Observation and Copernicus in the regions of Mediterranean, North Africa, Middle East, Balkans, and Black Sea. She supports the European Commission with the evaluation of proposals submitted in response to H2020 and Horizon Europe calls.
