Dr Evangelos Gerasopoulos is a Research Director at the Institute for Environmental Research and Sustainable Development of the National Observatory of Athens (NOA). Holds a PhD in the field of Atmospheric Physics and Dynamics with his research focuses on the fields of Earth observation, atmospheric composition, Earth system processes and climate, climate change and relevant synergistic interactions, as well as smart city applications. He is the Director of the Greek GEO Office (2014 –present), represents Greece in the relevant international bodies in the field of Earth observation (i.e. GEO Programme Board – 2015-present, EuroGEOSS Coordination Group, 2017-present) and is Member of the Special Scientific Committee on Climate Change, Ministry of Environment and Energy (2020), among others. In his research career, he has published more than 110 publications in peer reviewed journals and 140 in conferences (h-index-38, 4000 citations), and he has participated in/coordinated more than 40 European and national projects. Since September 2020 he is co-chairing the international initiative entitled “Urban Heritage Climate Observatory – UHCO”, in collaboration with UNESCO’s World Heritage Center, within the frame of the GEO Work Programme, and since March 2021 he has been elected as co-chair of the GEO Progamme Board.
