Dr Mario Hernandez has a long career working on Earth Observation applications. His professional working experience started by working at various IBM Scientific Centers, managing the of applications, software and hardware for satellite image processing.
Moved then into the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) where he was the manager of the Global Resource Information Database (GRID), a first attempt to make an EO Global Database.
Joined the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) where he set up the “UNESCO – European Space Agency: Open Initiative on the use of space technologies to support World Heritage sites”.
Since then he continues working on EO applications to support Natural and Cultural Heritage sites.
Currently he is: Vice-President International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE); Member of the GEO Programme Board; President of the Foundation of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. (TIF – ISPRS; Consultant to UNESCO; Invited researcher to Ghent University, Belgium; Consultant to the Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) in the State of Campeche.
