Toste Tanhua is a senior scientist at GEOMAR (Germany) and co-chair of GOOS. He was trained at Göteborg University, where he obtained his Ph.D in Marine Chemistry, and at SIO-UCSD, San Diego, CA, where he was a postdoctoral researcher. His research interests include transient tracers in the ocean, ocean ventilation and mixing and novel tracers development. He has participated in more than 35 research cruises and has been involved in several projects related to the development of sustained ocean observing systems. He is now the project coordinator of EuroSea, a H2020 European project supporting the G7 Future of Seas and Oceans Flagship Initiative.
