Steve Peedell is Africa Portfolio Coordinator at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) and project leader for BIOPAMA (Biodiversity and Protected Areas Management), helping to understand protected areas performance from a conservation and sustainable development perspective. He is an expert in geospatial information technology, with extensive international experience in the natural resources domain, and a track record of over 30 years in GIS / remote sensing applications and project management. Recent work has focused on delivering on-line information systems for protected areas across the 79 countries of the Africa, Caribbean, Pacific (ACP) countries, and in developing a new Africa Knowledge Platform, highlighting JRC's long-standing scientific partnerships and portfolio of projects in Africa and supporting EU policy priorities in international cooperation and development. Steve is a dual national, British and Italian, based in Italy for 20 years and fluent in English, French and Italian.
