Dr. Niels Souverijns (born in 1992) obtained a PhD in Climate Science from KU Leuven (Belgium) in 2019 for his research on improving observational products and regional climate models for precipitation and clouds representation over the Antarctic. He then joined VITO in the Remote Sensing Unit and worked on developing processing algorithms for Landsat and Sentinel. Since the beginning of 2021, Niels is employed in the Land Use and Climate Impacts group, where his area of research lies on urban climate adaptation services for local, national and international clients with a specific focus on urban heat stress modelling. Niels is the author of more than 15 scientific articles in peer-reviewed international journals & is also part-time working as a guest professor at KU Leuven, teaching two courses on atmospheric modelling.
