Tushara Maturi has been working at the GEO Secretariat since June 2023 and is currently the Member Services Associate at the GEO Secretariat, focussed on supporting the newly established Member Services unit and assisting the team in developing a long-term GEO Member Engagement Strategy as part of the Post-2025 Implementation Plan to facilitate intergovernmental communications on Earth observations and environmental policies.
Tushara works directly with Members and prospective Members in GEO to ensure appropriate onboarding, maintains sustained engagement, and assists with various governance services. An environmental economist by training, Tushara works towards building collaborations that not only enhance data accuracy but also support informed decision-making processes, ultimately leading to more effective and sustainable environmental strategies.
Tushara earned her Master of Science in Economics from The University of Manchester in 2022, where she specialised in environmental economics, econometrics, applied macroeconomics, and economic growth. Her postgraduate dissertation, titled "Carbon Taxes, Emissions and Economic Welfare: Singapore as a Case Study," reflects her keen interest in environmental policy, its economic implications, and international relations. Prior to this, she graduated with First Class Honours in Economics and Finance from the University of London and London School of Economics in Singapore.
