Belén Martín Míguez has combined research and scientific coordination working in several key institutions both in Spain, France, Belgium and Switzerland, contributing to the development of marine observational networks at national, European and international level. She obtained her PhD in physical oceanography at the University of Vigo (2003) and did her postdoc at the University of La Rochelle in 2006. Belén is currently working at the World Meteorological Organization, where she oversees and provides support to OOPC, Ocean Observations Physics and Climate Panel. OOPC is a scientific advisory group responsible for the design and assessment of a sustained global ocean observing system for climate. OOPC is co-sponsored and is a key element of WMO/GCOS, UNESCO/IOC/GOOS and WMO/WCRP and the custodian and steward of the set of ocean Essential Climate Variables (ECVs).
