Prof. Shiloh Osae joined Ghana Space Science and Technology Institute in March 2022. He helped establish GSSTI in 2012, where he led the GSSTI for two years and was reassigned, where he became the Director, National Nuclear Research Institute of and subsequently Deputy Director General of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission. He was also the Vice Dean of the School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences, University of Ghana. Prof Osae is an international expert, and his career spans the application of nuclear techniques in natural resources and environmental assessment.
He has worked extensively in applying isotopes in groundwater resource assessment and the technique in monitoring the sustainability of wetlands exposed to anthropogenic influences. His interest in environmental monitoring has led him to focus more on this research area, leading to several publications in the area. Other areas of research interest include the geochemistry of mineral deposits, radioactive minerals in the country, and the application of isotopes to study climate change. He is the National Counterpart for International Atomic Energy Agency Technical Cooperation and Coordinated Research Projects. These projects aim to apply isotopes for water resources assessment and sustainability of wetland ecosystems. He also serves as the National Expert on a United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) project on developing a toolkit to study contaminated sites for Persistent Organic Pollutants. He was also the National Coordinator for the United Nations Environmental Programmes (UNEP) / Global Environmental Fund (GEF) programme for monitoring air and mothers' milk in support of the Stockholm Convention. Prof Osae’s vision for the soon-to-be Ghana Space Agency is to advance space science technology for social and economic development by using innovative techniques to solve the developmental challenges facing Ghana and Africa.
