Andrew joined UNDRR in March 2021 as part of the Global Risk Analysis and Reporting team to serve as Programme Management Officer to help operationalize the Global Risk Assessment Framework (GRAF), including strengthening its delivery platform and positioning across national governments, UN and other partners to improve risk knowledge in focus countries.
Andrew brings 20 years experience working on disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, resilient infrastructure, ecosystem restoration, and development and climate finance through assignments in Nepal, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Canada, Vietnam and most recently Malawi. Prior to joining UNDRR, he was Portfolio Manager for Resilience and Sustainable Growth at UNDP Malawi country office. Prior to joining the UN, Andrew worked with the World Bank in Vietnam on social accountability, with Global Affairs Canada as head of multilateral programmes in the Environment and Food Security Bureau, and with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) as Deputy Country Director in Ethiopia and as Country Representative in Nigeria. Before this he worked as an environmental consultant with the OECD, USAID, IUCN Nepal, and the Canadian Centre for International Education. A Canadian national, Andrew holds a Master of Science from the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development at the University of Guelph, and a B.Sc. in Environment, Resources, and Sustainability from the University of Waterloo.
Andrew is a member of GEO DRR Working Group, supporting subgroups 1 and 2 while involved in Tasks 1.2 and 2.3.
