Hervé Kerdiles is a scientific officer with the Food Security unit of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, based in Ispra, Italy. Agronomist by training (INA Paris Grignon, France, 1988), Hervé started working on the applications of (low resolution) remote sensing data for agriculture in Argentina during his PhD thesis with INA Paris Grignon, then joined the JRC MARS project in 1995 to work on crop monitoring and yield forecasting in Europe. After an experience with Geosys, a French SME working on operational applications for the agricultural business, he came back to the JRC MARS project in 2001 to work on the control of the EU Common Agricultural Policy subsidies. Since 2011, he has been working on crop monitoring and yield forecasting in food insecure countries with the same project (renamed Food Security) for DG DEVCO (renamed INTPA).
