Carrie Stokes has worked for 30 years in international development, geospatial technology, and the environment. She has served for 10 years as the Chief Geographer at USAID headquarters in Washington, DC. She established and directs the USAID GeoCenter, a team of geographers and data analysts who apply geospatial technology, analytics, and visualization techniques to inform development decision-making. Prior to becoming the Chief Geographer, Carrie led the SERVIR-Global program, in a joint venture with USAID and NASA. The SERVIR program helps developing countries use satellite data to address critical challenges in food security, water resources, weather and climate, land use, and disasters. Carrie has a background in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), global climate change, and natural resources management. She served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Niger, West Africa, and holds an M.S. in Environmental Science.
