Muhammad Arif Goheer is an Agronomist/Agro-Climatologist working as Principal Scientist and currently heading the Agriculture and Coordination Sections at Global Change Impact Studies Centre (GCISC- a dedicated research institute for climate change studies in Pakistan). Assessing the impacts of climate variability and change on agricultural systems using crop simulation and water management modeling approaches, climate smart agriculture; compilation of GHG inventories for AFOLU sector, CC communications and science – policy linkages are his prime areas of interest.
He has remained associated with a number of national/ international scientific bodies, including Fellow at IIASA, Austria and Australian National University, Australia, Member of WMO’s CAgM Expert Team, IPCC, UNFCCC and founding member of International Society for Agricultural Meteorology. He has contributed to and is presently involved in various international/national projects related to climate change and food security. He has contributed to Pakistan’s NDCs, and Second National Communication in key roles, I also have served as a Lead Author to the IPCC Report on 2019 Refinement to IPCC 2006 Guidelines for the preparation of GHG Inventories. He is also contributing to Consultative Group of Experts (CGE) of UNFCCC as and have most recently been elected as Chair of the group.
