Objectives
In today's rapidly evolving technological landscape, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Earth Observation (EO) data present unprecedented opportunities to address pressing global challenges. This session aims to explore the intersection of AI and EO, emphasizing their potential for advancing sustainable development, environmental stewardship, and contributing to GEO’s Post-2025 Vision ‘Earth Intelligence for All’. It will delve into cutting-edge AI techniques that enhance the extraction of actionable insights from EO data, such as image classification, object detection, time series analysis, and predictive modelling. It will also showcase real-world applications and case studies where AI-driven approaches have been successfully applied to EO datasets for land cover mapping, urbanization monitoring, deforestation detection, and disaster mapping and management. Moreover, it will engage the participants in discussing challenges and opportunities in integrating AI with EO, including data quality, scalability, ethical considerations, and the need for interdisciplinary collaboration.
