From monitoring to transformative action on inland water ecosystems: why are local communities critical?

Summary:

This event will provide a discussion of how we can ensure action is taken to intensify the role of the local community in monitoring freshwater biodiversity, mobilizing data, and supporting indicator and reporting requirements for adaptive management and restoration of freshwater ecosystems. Discussions will also center around the need for community engagement, training, and knowledge exchange through improved communication. It will include panelists who represent community-based monitoring (CAMPCA Network), the Freshwater Challenge (country-led initiative for conservation and restoration), representatives of government, NGOs, and academia, as well as local community members.
