The Maldives Accelerator: Building a National Ecosystems Map

This event will unveil the groundbreaking “accelerator” initiative of the Global Ecosystems Atlas in the Maldives. The initiative, furthered by an in-country workshop this July, aims to develop the Maldives’ first comprehensive national ecosystems map, aligned with the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Global Ecosystem Typing (GET) standards. The discussion will explore the initiative’s integration of local and international expertise-- especially the use of new technologies like the Global Ecosystems Atlas-- and its implications for biodiversity conservation. The discussion will also unpack the potential for scaling this approach beyond the Maldives.
