Laurence Monnoyer-Smith is Director for sustainable development and performance at CNES, the French Space Agency which she joined in 2019. She is in charge of the CSR policy and piloting the Space Climate Observatory program.

Holder of a PhD in Media Studies and an Habilitation to supervise Research, Laurence Monnoyer-Smith was head of the Social Sciences laboratory at the University of Technology of Compiègne where she was also Professor.

In 2013, she became Vice-President of the National Commission for Public Debate and actively contributed to developing tools for representative and participatory democracy in environmental issues.

Laurence Monnoyer-Smith was appointed in May 2015 as Interministerial Delegate and General Commissioner for Sustainable Development within the Ministry of the Environment, Energy and the Sea. As such, she led the French roadmap for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
