Head of Research Group & Senior Scientist, German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research

Carsten Meyer leads a research group at iDiv, the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research. As principal investigator of the GlobES (Global EcoSystems) project and the coordinating PI of the LUCKINet (Land Use Change Knowledge Integration Network), he brings extensive experience in mapping global distributions of different natural and human-made (e.g., land-use dominated) terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems and their changes over time. His methodological research foci include quantifying biases and uncertainties in in-situ and remotely sensed information, using models to integrate heterogeneous data sources to exploit their unique strengths while explicitly addressing their limitations, and objectively resolving conflicts between different maps and time series.
