Community Event - Using Impact Assessment Techniques to Demonstrate the Success of GEO with the New GEO EO Impact Assessment Toolkit
Description
The service solutions developed within the Group on Earth Observations are aimed at addressing global challenges and deliver benefits that may have a transformative impact on society, environment and the economy. But how can these benefits be demonstrated? The GEO Impact Assessment Toolkit (GIAT) is a practical resource designed to empower analysts within the GEO Work Programme Activities to independently assess and demonstrate the benefits of their EO activities for public and private decision-makers, stakeholders, organizations, and GEO at large. The GIAT aims to foster a deeper understanding of EO’s value across wide-ranging contexts while equipping practitioners with the knowledge to translate impact findings into compelling value cases for broader audiences. By helping analysts to articulate the economic and societal value of their EO solution, it will ultimately drive strategic support to sustain businesses, investments and innovations. The toolkit has been developed by the GEOValue group at the request of the GEO Programme Board. We propose to organize a community event to present the GIAT. Participants will learn how the toolkit can be used and how it has already been applied by some GEO Work Programme Activities such as GEOGLAM, GEO Blue Planet, GFOI. The event will seek to share the experiences of these GEO WPAs and other potentially interested ones, bringing the perspective of experts in impact evaluation to advance more in-depth analyses and promote the exchange of actionable ideas. Following this, a discussion with representatives of the GEO governance will reflect upon how the GIAT can help GEO to demonstrate its success. The feedbacks gathered during this session will inform the continued refinement of the GIAT and used to foster a wider uptake within the community.
Join us in exploring how the GEO Impact Assessment Toolkit can shed light on how EO creates, and how it can potentially expand, meaningful societal impact.
