GEO Youth Community of Practice

GEO Youth Community of Practice

Concept

The GEO Youth Community of Practice (GEO-YOUTH) empowers young people with the skills, knowledge and representation they need to create the future they want.

GEO-YOUTH is an initiative by and for young people that advances youth capacity building, engagement and innovation across GEO and the GEO Work Programme.

There is significant, untapped potential for GEO and young people to meaningfully engage with one another and advance Earth Intelligence for All. GEO-YOUTH is a key step to realise this potential and advance Goal 4 of GEO’s Post-2025 Strategy.

By joining GEO-YOUTH, young people gain access to a global network of young Earth observations professionals, online opportunities and youth programmes.

Objectives

GEO-YOUTH will develop initiatives that promote youth engagement, empowerment and contributions to GEO’s mission. Specific objectives include:

  • Fostering connections and partnerships with academic, international and civil society organisations.
  • Equipping youth with relevant skills to use Earth observation data applications for a variety of career fields.
  • Promoting active youth participation in GEO governance and the GEO Work Programme.
  • Working with existing youth engagement programmes in Regional GEOs and the GEO Work Programme.

GEO-YOUTH is currently finalising its Terms of Reference and a Work Plan.
